Context

You manage a BeamMP server at Winheberg and want to add new cars to your server so your players can drive something other than the base vehicles? Whether it's a supercar, a truck, a rally car, or any other modded vehicle from the community, installation takes less than 5 minutes through your gaming panel.

Good news, unlike installing a modded map, adding a car is even simpler. No path to configure in Startup, just an upload and a server restart.

Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure you have the following.

  • An active BeamMP server on your Winheberg gaming panel
  • The .zip file of the car you want to install
  • A trusted source to download the mod from (the official BeamNG.drive Repository, BeamMP forums, recognized modders)

Only download modded cars from trusted sources. .zip files can contain malicious code or corrupted files. Prefer the official BeamNG repository or well-known community creators.

1. Upload the car to your server

Just like with maps, your car's file needs to be placed in a specific folder to be detected by BeamMP and sent to players.

  1. Log in to your Winheberg gaming panel
  2. Select your BeamMP server
  3. In the side menu, click Files
  4. Navigate to the Resources folder, then Client
  5. Drag and drop your .zip file into this folder (don't extract it, BeamMP reads archives directly)

The full path should look like this.

/home/container/Resources/Client/your-car.zip

The panel enforces a 100 MB upload limit through the web interface. If your .zip exceeds this limit, you'll need to use an SFTP connection to upload your mod. Your SFTP credentials are available in your server's Settings section (host, port, username), and the password is the same as your panel account's. Use a client like FileZilla or WinSCP to connect and drop your file directly into Resources/Client.

The Client folder is specifically for resources automatically sent to players when they connect. Your players will download the mod the first time they join the server after you add it.

2. Restart your server

That's all there is to do on the configuration side. Unlike modded maps, no path needs to be changed in Startup. BeamMP automatically detects the cars present in Resources/Client and makes them available to players.

  1. Go back to your server's main page in the panel
  2. Click Restart (or Stop then Start if needed)
  3. Watch the console to make sure the server starts correctly

Once the server has restarted, the mod is active and will be automatically sent to your players the next time they connect.

3. Check that the car is available

To test that everything works correctly.

  • Connect to the server from your BeamMP client in-game
  • On first launch, BeamMP will automatically download the mod to your client (this can take a few seconds to several minutes depending on the size)
  • Once the download is done, open the vehicles menu in BeamNG.drive
  • Your new car should show up in the list, ready to be selected

If you don't see the car in the list, first check that the download actually finished. A loading icon or an error message may show up if something went wrong on the client side.

If you run into trouble

Here are the most common errors when installing a modded car.

❌ The car doesn't show up in the in-game menu

Several possible causes. Check the following.

  • The .zip file is indeed in Resources/Client and not in Server or elsewhere
  • The .zip wasn't accidentally extracted
  • You did restart the server after the upload (a simple resource restart isn't enough)
  • Your players did finish downloading the mod on their BeamMP client

❌ The mod download fails on the player's side

If your players see a download error when connecting.

  • The .zip file may be corrupted, try redownloading it from its source
  • The mod may be incompatible with BeamMP (some solo mods aren't adapted for multiplayer)
  • The .zip may be too large and cause a timeout for some players with a slow connection

❌ The server crashes after adding the mod

If your server won't start anymore or crashes right after the addition, the mod is likely faulty or incompatible with the BeamMP version you're using. Remove the .zip file from the Resources/Client folder and restart to confirm. If the server restarts correctly without the mod, that confirms it's the culprit.

❌ The car shows up but has graphical or physics bugs

Some mods are designed only for BeamNG.drive's solo mode and aren't adapted for multiplayer (missing textures, desynced physics, etc.). Check the mod's page to see if it's explicitly BeamMP-compatible, or try replacing it with a multiplayer-compatible version.

Best practices

A few recommendations for managing your modded cars smoothly.

  • Back up your server before adding several mods at once
  • Test each mod individually before adding several in a row. If an issue comes up, you'll know right away which mod is responsible
  • Keep an eye on your mods' total size, the more you add, the longer the initial download for your players will be
  • Prefer mods optimized for multiplayer to avoid lag and desync
  • Update your mods regularly if the authors release new versions fixing bugs

You can add several cars at once by dragging all the .zip files together into Resources/Client. A single restart is then enough to activate all the new cars.
