Context

You manage a BeamMP server at Winheberg and want to change maps to offer your players a new environment, without going through installing a modded map? Good news, BeamNG.drive includes more than 12 official maps already available, and you can switch between them in under a minute from your gaming panel.

This guide explains how to change your BeamMP server's official map, with the full list of available maps and their configuration path.

Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure you have the following.

  • An active BeamMP server on your Winheberg gaming panel
  • A few spare minutes, ideally during off-peak hours so as not to disturb your players

This procedure requires no download or file upload. All these maps are already included in your players' copy of BeamNG.drive, the server just tells them which one to load.

List of available official maps

Here's the full list of base maps available in BeamNG.drive, with the path to configure in the panel.

Map Description Path to use
Gridmap v2 Rectangular test map, ideal for testing vehicles /levels/gridmap_v2/info.json
Automation Test Track Test circuit for vehicles /levels/automation_test_track/info.json
East Coast USA Small American coastal town, East Coast feel /levels/east_coast_usa/info.json
Hirochi Raceway Japanese racing circuit with several layouts /levels/hirochi_raceway/info.json
Italy Large Italian map with villages, mountains, and coastline /levels/italy/info.json
Jungle Rock Island Tropical island with winding roads and jungle /levels/jungle_rock_island/info.json
Industrial Urban industrial zone with warehouses /levels/industrial/info.json
Small Island Small island ideal for fun and jumps /levels/small_island/info.json
SmallGrid Minimalist grid for testing without distractions /levels/smallgrid/info.json
Utah Wide desert spaces and canyons /levels/utah/info.json
West Coast USA Popular map with a city, highways, and countryside /levels/west_coast_usa/info.json
Driver Training Training circuit with various exercises /levels/driver_training/info.json
Derby Derby arena for collisions and destruction /levels/derby/info.json

For an RP or freeroam server, the most popular maps are West Coast USA, East Coast USA, and Italy thanks to their large size and variety of scenery. For racing, prefer Hirochi Raceway or Automation Test Track. For fun with friends, Small Island and Jungle Rock Island are excellent choices.

1. Access your server's configuration

  1. Log in to your Winheberg gaming panel
  2. Select your BeamMP server
  3. In the side menu, click Startup

2. Change the map path

  1. On the Startup page, find the Map field
  2. Replace the current value with the map path you want (pick one from the table above)
  3. Save the changes

For example, to switch to West Coast USA, put this in the Map field.

/levels/west_coast_usa/info.json

Or to switch to Italy.

/levels/italy/info.json

Follow the format shown in the table exactly. The path is case-sensitive, contains no spaces, and must always end with /info.json. One typo and the server won't find the map.

3. Restart your server

For the new map to take effect, you need to restart your BeamMP server.

  1. Go back to your server's main page in the panel
  2. Click Restart (or Stop then Start if needed)
  3. Watch the console to make sure the server starts correctly

Your players will switch to the new map on their next connection. No extra download is needed on their side, since all these maps are already installed with BeamNG.drive.

If you run into trouble

Here are the most common errors when changing maps.

❌ The server is still loading the old map

If the server stays on the previous map after restarting.

  • Check that you did save the changes on the Startup page before restarting
  • Check that the restart actually happened (a simple resource restart doesn't change the map)
  • Reload the panel page to confirm the Map field shows the new value

❌ The server starts but loads the default map

The path you entered in the Map field is incorrect. Check the following.

  • The path is exactly identical to the one in the table (no spaces, case-sensitive)
  • You're using the /levels/NAME/info.json format
  • The map name has no typo (west_coast_usa, not westcoastusa)

❌ Loading error in the console

If you see an error like "Could not find level" or "Map not found" in the console, the server can't locate the map. Check the following.

  • The path starts with /levels/
  • You're using an official map name (not a made-up one)
  • You haven't confused it with a modded map (which needs a different procedure)

❌ My players get black screens or loading errors

If your players can't load the new map.

  • Ask them to verify the game's file integrity through Steam (right-click BeamNG.drive → Properties → Local Files → Verify integrity)
  • Make sure they have the latest version of BeamNG.drive installed
  • If the issue only affects one player, it's likely on their end rather than your server

Best practices

A few recommendations for managing your map changes smoothly.

  • Warn your players before changing maps, especially on an RP server where vehicles parked on the old map may disappear
  • Back up your configuration before a major change (Startup, mods, etc.)
  • Test the map in solo in BeamNG.drive before deploying it, to get a feel for its atmosphere and specifics
  • Rotate maps regularly to break the routine and offer your players something new
  • Document somewhere which map is active so you can roll back easily

Want to go further?

If the 13 official maps aren't enough for you, you can install modded maps made by the community to offer unique terrain on your server (realistic RP maps, exotic circuits, custom open worlds, etc.). Check our dedicated guide on installing a modded map for the full procedure.
